10 Reasons That You Never Knew About the Failure of Freelancers

December 18, 2015 By techinism 1 Comment

The Rate of newbie freelancers’ failure is higher comparatively than already existing and experienced freelancers? You may wonder why is that? High competition, lack of time management, lack of crisis management,  and lack of determination are the main reasons, but the list doesn’t end here.

Newbie Freelancers Failure Syndrome

Actually, there are several reasons and I have made an attempt today to throw some light on some which I think cause this freelance failure syndrome. Make sure you don’t have any of the symptoms of this syndrome because if you do you need to treat them before it is too late.

High competition

That is the biggest problem newbies face in online freelancing and the competition is rising with each passing day. Newbies actually don’t understand how to handle this competition and the motivation as they bid but are unable to get any projects and ultimately lose hope in freelancing.

Time Management

One of the main reasons of newbie freelancers failure in my point of view is the lack of time management. They don’t know how to prioritize their day to day activities and don’t know what minimal time they require to complete the project which leads to delay in work then client dissatisfaction and ultimately failure.

Excessive Bidding

This point is linked somewhat to the time management. Newbies, in the beginning, do excessive bidding in order to get more projects and earn more. When they get responses they take the projects and then can’t meet the milestones due to overburdened which they can’t handle. this also causes the freelancer to be demotivated and ultimately leads him to failure.

Time Zone

Sometimes even excessive bidding does not get the beginner any projects and the reason is the time zone differences. They consume all their connects/limits to apply for a specific job without thinking of when the job has been posted. This can be overcome if the newbie calculates the time difference and bid when the job is freshly posted on the portal. It can be midnight for the freelancer, but it can bring the opportunity for a newbie to be the first applicants.

Lack of Focus

Not taking freelancing seriously is another reason of newbie freelancers failure. They don’t have the desired attitude towards and take it as flummery and thus fail.

Scope Creep

They don’t define the scope of the project clearly and give more than desired then ensue scope creep. This consumes more of their resources i.e., both time and money and then the newbie freelancers become demotivated and either they fails or simply leave freelancing thinking this is not beneficial for them.

Incorrect Pricing

Incorrect pricing is when the beginners don’t know about the prevailing rate the services they are offering. Secondly, they don’t know how to negotiate with a client on fair terms. For the newbie freelancers, failure can be overcome by better negotiation and understanding what to charge for their work in a fairer manner.

A Flat Freelance Profile

Yes! They need to make their profiles impressive to grab clients attention. Flat profiles don’t work. you have to publicize yourself to publicize your service to excel and for that an impressive Profile with a cheerful Profile picture is very necessary.

Unimpressive Cover-letter

Your Cover Letter is what gets you the job. It should be different and something that must impress and satisfy your clients. Not paying much attention to it and simply writing plain cover-letters what causes newbie freelancer failure.

So, my friends, it is time to check yourself up and make sure if you have any of the above mentioned symptoms. No? Good enough. Yes? You are on your way to failure and you need to stop and improve before it is too late.
